Copenhagen Is Now Officially Home to the Best Street Food Vendor in Europe
Over the past few years, Street food has become a worldwide crowd pleaser, with vendors across the globe opening markets and vans that diners enjoy so much they usually turn into a permanent fixture!
Customers simply can’t resist the authentic, flavourful and soulful dishes that come from stalls like these, and more customers will now turn down the promise of the five-star restaurant experience. And with such a variety of cuisines on offer, can you really blame diners?!
easyJet recruited a team of 73 food experts - including the one and only Michelin-starred Noma chef, René Redzepi - to travel around Europe with the hope they would find the very best street food available. It’s safe to say they certainly chowed down on everything the continent had to offer!
Now if you want to get your hands on the best of the best, then you will need to get yourself to Copenhagen. Hija de Sanchez, which began life as a Mexican food truck in 2015, was rated the best street food vendor in the whole of Europe!
Hija de Sanchez was founded by Rosio Sanchez, and her menu is known around the world due to her unusual combination of Mexican spices and Nordic ingredients. You can find this stall in the city’s Torvehallerne area but a new permanent restaurant has opened in the neighbourhood of Vesterbro.
“Colour, diversity, sharing, that’s what Mexican dining is all about! And I have always found it difficult to find quality Mexican food anywhere in Europe”, Rosio said after discovering she’d won the top prize! She also predicts that both loyal and new customers alike will “return like ants” when she reopens her stall again this spring.
Second was Sea Me, which makes Japanese and Portuguese fusion seafood in the city of Lisbon, and Alain Miam Miam in Paris took third place for their infamous grilled buckwheat galettes.
